Royal Enfield really amped up its heritage quotient with the Classic series of motorcycles. While the Classic 350 is the one which rakes in the sales numbers, it is the Classic 500 that is the aspirational macho motorcycle that highly appeals to the thumper enthusiast. Recently, the entire royal enfield bullet 500 range received the addition of dual-channel ABS, which raised prices of the 500 by Rs 14,860.
Powering the bike is a 499cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that produces 27.57PS at 5,250rpm and 41.3Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. In terms of underpinnings, the Classic 500 continues to use the same single-downtube frame with the engine as a stressed member, with a telescopic fork and twin gas-charged shock absorber setup at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a single 280mm front disc and a 240mm disc brake at the rear. The Classic 500 range starts at Rs 2.01 lakh for the standard model and goes up to Rs 2.11 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi) for the Classic Chrome model.
